The Limetree Autumn Exhibition launches on the 24th October at Limetree Gallery, Bristol

Here are a few photos I took with my mobile today, showing these lovely oak frames, then below those – at the end of this post – are more detailed photos of all the paintings available for the Autumn Exibition at the Limetree Gallery, with titles and sizes.

These paintings represent the start of my Aberlady-inspired series this year. They were quick oil sketches designed to capture the atmospheric solitude and moody colours of the east coast in winter, such a contrast to my later paintings of Aberlady in June this year! More on that tomorrow…

Above, today’s paintings for the Applecross Series which launches at the Limetree Gallery, Bristol on 31st October. The featured painting at the top is ‘Road. Kintail’. Oil on 7×5″ wood.

I’m quite excited about ‘Road. Kintail’ as I love taking photos and sketching while in the car (as a passenger of course!) The road itself provides great perspective and it’s fun trying to sketch or photograph in a moving car. This has that optimistic holiday feel – going somewhere. I wonder if it will appeal to others the same way it does me.

I’m persevering with the oil paints. I love the effects but it’s so messy – I spend half my energy cleaning up at the end of the day!

That’s it for the week. My partner and I are designing a dress this weekend – our new creative adventure – oil-paint-covered hands and expensive fabric do not mix!

‘Harbour’ exhibition launch

P1080740 P1080737The preview evening of Harbour went well – there was a really nice buzz, good conversations, several sales and an upcoming commission!

Harbour runs until the 30th June. Many thanks to all who came along and to Terence at the Freespace gallery for his help and good cheer.

The Freespace Gallery was the perfect scale for these smaller works, the wall screen was a good feature too, displaying a showreel of art collaborations between myself, composer/cellist Atzi Muramatsu and poet Jennifer L Williams. (Atzi recently won a BAFTA Best Composer Award at the BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards, very well deserved!)

This is the start of a busy summer this year – my next exhibition will be on a bigger scale with an entirely new theme inspired by the village of Casares in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. More about that next week…
