T r a c e s 

A series of paintings by artist Rose Strang SSA and an award-winning film/documentary by filmmaker Manuel Pennuto, with music arrangement by Adam Brewster, presented in association with Richard Demarco CBE.

The work takes as its subject a medieval Carmelite friary in a forest of East Lothian, where a broken arch and a weathered crusader’s effigy still remain. Following a collaborative pilgrimage to the site with Richard Demarco, and drawing on medieval contemplative writing and creative observation, the project practises a contemplative attention to place, examining the contested histories that gather at sacred sites and the questions they raise about faith, memory, war and reconciliation.
