The Shorelines series returns again to Aberlady, a stretch of the East Lothian coast I’ve known and walked for years. Painted in oil on small wood panels and framed in oak, the works began as quick studies made to catch the atmospheric solitude of the bay in winter, its muted, moody colours and the wide emptiness of the east coast under low light. Together they read as a sustained meditation on one familiar place, on the shifting moods of sea, sand and sky along a coastline the artist has long felt close to.
