Iona Series 2025

The Iona Series (2025) represents a continuation of my three-decade visual engagement with the Isle of Iona. Grounded in a deep familiarity with the island’s coastline and climate, this body of work explores the shifting dynamics between maritime weather, light, and terrain. Rather than treating the landscape as a static subject, the paintings record the immediate, physical experience of the Hebridean environment.

The painting’s called Storm Island because it shows a somewhat abstracted view from the north beach of Iona to Eilean Annraidh, which means Island of Storm in Gaelic.Storm Island

Rose Strang observes North Beach, Iona (May) with atmospheric close-up clarity. The circle of black rocks, pale sand and turquoise shallows, lead to the misty mountains beyond with a loose, impressionistic style.” (Vivien Devlin. Smart Leisure Guide) Edinburgh Festival Exhibition
