I N T R O
The Harbour series is a set of small paintings of Scotland’s east coast harbours, made early in 2016: Cove Bay, Seacliff, North Berwick, Elie, Crail and Pittenweem. Worked in mixed media on eight-inch-square wood panels, they were painted in a fairly impasto style, expressing my sense of the life of harbours: fishing boats moored at low tide, red buoys and creels, masts and rigging, and above all the reflections breaking and reassembling in the green harbour water. The small scale suited an intimate, quite small space and the series was exhibited as Harbour at the Freespace Gallery, Edinburgh, in June 2016, a tenth of all sales going to the Scottish Wildlife Trust‘s Living Seas project and its work for the recovery of Scotland’s marine life.
